Many of you in adoption-land already know the rest of this verse:
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27
Our sermon at church on Sunday touched on these verses. I know that there are many ways to look after both widows and orphans, but we have obeyed God's direction to look after one in a very specific way (through adoption). I have been a little discouraged by the lack of progress in document-gathering, but this reminds me that even in the gathering stage, I am worshiping God.
And as we wait through the process to bring our daughter home, I can work on keeping myself from being polluted by the world--no small task. In fact, that was the subject of study in my last week's Bible study--keeping our home safe for our kids. Not just keeping medicines and chemicals away, but also being diligent in protecting the girls from ungodly television, internet, etc., etc. Our home needs to be a safe place for our girls to grow and thrive. The Holy Spirit needs to permeate our home. And that gives us something to work on as we prepare our home for another daughter.
