On Monday I went to one local law enforcement agency. I went in with five blank fingerprint cards hoping that I could get two or three distinct print sets. The experience was almost comical--except that it was so frustrating. I won't detail it--but the end result was an hour wasted, and five copies of the same set of illegible fingerprints.
We got back to the van and I was sad, so Audrey said "Let's pray." That was very special and she led us in a prayer for this whole fingerprint situation.
We decided to try another agency. We spent another hour and got two more identical copies of illegible fingerprints. The worker there was stressed because there were so many people waiting to be printed and he was the only worker. But once again, I had someone who wouldn't listen to what I needed--he even refused to use the ridge raiser because he was in a hurry (it takes about 15 seconds to spray on).
(On a plus--I had all three girls with me and they were all patient and sweet. That was awesome and made the whole thing much less stressful).
On Tuesday, Todd sent out an e-mail to his coworkers to see if anyone had any connections or suggestions for getting my prints. He apparently received a lot of encouragement and some great suggestions. However, the best lead seems to be someone at a state agency who has experience capturing difficult prints. Todd's coworker spoke to this expert and she assured him that the workers in her department have lots of tricks for getting difficult prints, and if they try those and none work, they have a contact at the FBI to see if there are any other suggestions. This sounds promising! When Todd's coworker spoke with her yesterday, she said that I should be able to come in today (Wednesday), but I haven't heard from her yet. I'd love to go today, but even if I don't, I feel encouraged that I may be close to getting those needed prints. Praise be to God!
