June! It is all about Disney!!! (well, mostly)

June started with the end... of school. I wondered how Yuly would do with all of the transitions, but she was fine. She has been very excited about summer vacation. She had a great year (few months) with Mrs. R but is happy to be promoted to 2nd grade.

The first part of June was very busy. Here are some highlights:

Yuly went and played at a friend's house...and I didn't stay. That was a first experience for her!

Swimming lessons for Yuly and Riza to prepare for the Disney trip. At the pool there was also a big slide and after they got the hang of swimming they went down the slide about 10 times one afternoon.

Audrey and Savanna went to Costa Rica on a mission trip. They had an awesome time! They were on a team that went up on a mountain to help a missionary who is working to translate the Bible into an Indian language. They cleared fields, painted and sanded, planted coffee plants, and just did odd jobs so the missionary could focus on his work. One day they went to a school and played soccer with some of the Indians. They brought home coffee and a lot of memories! It was so great to see how God used them.

While they were gone, Riza and Yuly went to a cheerleading camp. At random times, we are still hearing the cheers that they learned :)

We also went to Chuck E Cheese, celebrated Fathers' Day, and met friends at a playground to play.

But of course, the highlight of the month was Disney. I was a little worried about how the time would go...would it be too much sensory overload? Would it be too different, too strange? I really wanted the time to be special for all my girls and the other family that we traveled with. I prayed a lot for wisdom on how to have a fun, no meltdown, vacation.

So, we prepared. We walked a lot in our "Disney shoes" and talked about all the walking we would do. We ordered the vacation planning video and watched it and talked about the rides and shows. We went to an outdoor museum and wore our snack bags (the girls each had fanny pack with a water bottle and snack) and walked in the heat. We talked about wearing the packs and walking in the heat and standing in lines at Disney. I read, planned agendas, and had a back-up plan ready.

And, all of the prayer and preparation worked!! We had no meltdowns. We had a wonderful, fantastic, magical time! We went to Animal Kingdom, Epcot, and Magic Kingdom. We had a pool day in the mix too. (the little girls spent almost the whole day in the pool!)

Of course, we made a lot of great memories. Here are just a few highlights:

The first day, Animal Kingdom day, we got to the park early and so we had to stand around a little waiting to get in. We got to see Mickey open the park. I sent Todd and all the big girls (we vacationed with my sweet friend Cindy and her two teenaged daughters) to ride Expedition Everest while we headed to the Safari. As we started walking, the little girls started complaining that they were tired (the park had been open about 5 minutes!). We had to stop and rest at every park bench along the way. I had a bad feeling about what the day was going to be like! But, after the first ride, we didn't hear about being tired any more!

At the Princess lunch at Epcot, Riza was cranky and wouldn't get her picture taken with Belle. She crumpled on the floor and Belle came over and kneeled down next to her and whispered to her until Riza came up with a big smile on her face. At the lunch, Yuly told each princess, "You look just like you do in the movie!" and Riza told Aurora "You are so beautiful." Snow White assigned each of the girls a dwarf name and Ariel stopped long enough to tell us her whole story!

At Soarin' in Epcot, the girls were wide-eyed and giggling for the whole trip. We rode it twice!

At Spaceship Earth in Epcot, Yuly selected "Chinese" for the narration... that was interesting :)

Magic Kingdom was truly magical. The girls loved every ride. The big girls stayed there all day (14 hours!) and the little girls made it 10. We went back to the hotel for a swim in the middle of the day, and returned for the parade and fireworks. Awesome!

We are truly grateful to God for His provision and wisdom. We thank Him for laughter! We heard a lot of it these Disney days!
