Getting a taste of things to come

Well, sort of. I think I mentioned before that my dad and I found a Colombian restaurant here in town. I still haven't had a chance to bring the whole family, but the last time I was there I bought some Colombian soft drinks. One was called Postobon. The other was called Popular. Tonight I brought them out for a tasting party.

On a side note, when I was trying to order the sodas, I asked the waiter about the different choices. The waiter kept explaining to me that one of the choices was Popular. I said that I was glad to order something that was Popular. I asked him the name of the soda...it took a little while to get it all sorted out. (Actually, I didn't really understand until he brought me the soda!)

The general consensus from the family was that Postobon (Apple flavored) tasted better than the Popular (fruit flavored) but that in general, we would prefer a Coca-cola. But we have fun trying new things and can't wait to travel to get the full Colombian experience!

Funny! Food is such a fun way to celebrate your child's birth country...we have tried so many Guatemalan restaurants and have a bunch of cookbooks. Now we get to celebrate Colombia too! Have fun with Colombian cuisine!

Colombiana is another one and is a favorite of my husband and his family. There is a good cookbook you can find if you search amazon or bn.com for colombian cookbook. its got a black cover with a white plate of food on the front.

Soaking in the culture already. I love it! I don't remember seeing either drink in Colombia. Mostly Coca-Cola (as they say, you'll never hear Coke). I know at El Refugio, ever Sunday, they broke out the 2 liters of Coca Cola--what a treat! The rest of the time, it was tea, juice and water. Nevertheless, it's great to see you all getting prepared!

We adopted four sibs last summer. They LOVED soda, or should I say the prospect of it in the fridge. Even now, eight months later, their eyes get really big when I give it as an option--because most of the time it is not. :)

Juice, juice, juice also. They LOVE juice more than anything--any kind of juice. We gave them lots of orange and mango juice in the beginning. Now they love grape, apple, cranberry, and all the standard flavors here in the US.

But we didn't want to have juice with every meal so we slowly weaned them off. Now it is a treat, as well.

Looks like you are getting close. Good Luck from the McCracken Family.
